Need For Speed Most Wanted

Text guide contributed by The Gamer Dude
BLACKLISTERS CARS YOU NEED

So once you get to buy your first car, I would suggest you buy the Chevy Cobalt. It's fast, and that's what your going to want for the beginning of the game.

HINT: If you have a saved game of Need For Speed Underground 2, then you get an extra $10,000 to start with. I suggest you save that money for upgrades on your cars. Not on your Cobalt.

For a second car your going to need to either, pick the correct marker after defeating blacklist rival number fifteen Sonny, or rival number fourteen Taz. If you don't get Sonny's pinkslip that's fine, move on to your next rival.

IMPORTANT TIP!: If you really want a blacklister's car, save the game before you challenge your rival, and after defeating your rival if you pick the wrong maker and don't get their pinkslip. Just go to the main menu, and reload your saved game, and try again! You might find yourself using this tip later on in the game, so remember this.

After beating Sonny, your next rival is Taz, Taz drives a Lexus a car you need to get if you want to beat your next rival. Challenge Taz, and try to pick the correct marker to get his pinkslip. If you need to refer to the above tip.

So win Taz's car, and use his car do defeat number thirteen on the blacklist, Vic. You want Vic's car!. Vic drives a Toyota Supra, and car that can take you miles more into the game. So now challenge Vic, and win his car. Okay so now that you have Vic's car upgrade all that you can to it (refer to upgrading/tuning part of guide). Use the Toyota Supra for the next two blacklist rivals.

Your next rival is number ten, Baron. Baron drives a Porsche Cayman, another that you need to progress farther into the game. So acquire Barons car. I'm now assuming you have picked the right marker and have Baron's Porsche. At this point in the game I suggest you sell your Cobalt for some extra cash.

So you should now have three cars in your career. Your Lexus, Supra, and your Porsche. You can now go down two roads now in buying and upgrading cars. Your first option is to just upgrade your Porsche and Supra. Second option is to buy one or two new cars you like just for fun.
What I did was a combination of the both, I only bought one car, a car I lusted for. I bought a Porsche 911 Carrera, which I made my main car to drive.

SIDE NOTE: I choose the 911 Carrera because I'm an exotics guy. You could buy any car you want, because in the end the car you buy and max out in performance is going to be the same as any other car in the game.

So if you want choose a car you want to fully upgrade. I choose my Supra, and Porsche 911 Carrera. So just alternate between tunning whatever car(s) you choose (refer to upgrading/tuning part of guide).

The next blacklist rival's car your going to need is number six's car, Ming. Ming drives a Lamborghini Gallardo, a car great for pursuit chases. Acquire Ming's car by using the important tip if you need to.

That's pretty much it for what blacklist rival's cars you need. If you see another blacklist rival's car you like, take it!

Upgrading And Tuning Your Car

Upgrading
When upgrading your car(s) with new performance parts it takes a bit of strategy. If your low on cash then you really need to figure out performance part you need first. So lets start there.
Lets say you buy a new car and want to start racing with it, but you have limited cash. First thing I like to do is put every part in my shopping list, that way I can see how much more money I would need until I would have my new car fully upgraded. Then the four parts to upgrade first are:
  • The Engine
  • The Transmission
  • Nitrous
  • And the supercharger / turbo

But you have limited cash. SO the first out of the four parts to upgrade is the nitrous, then the engine, transmission, and then the supercharge / turbo. Then you can upgrade the other parts like brakes, tires, and suspension.

Tuning

Now how to tune your car. You really don't have to tune to many parts of your car, just the steering, nitrous, and the supercharge / turbo. For steering slide that bar all the way to the right, making your car more responsive to how slightly you turn the analog stick. This is a good thing, you can swerve in and out of traffic easier. Next do the same thing with your nitrous, slide those bars all the way to the right, giving you more speed when using our nitrous. Lastly is your supercharge / turbo, again slide the bars all the way to the right, giving your car more speed on the straight aways.
Don't be afraid to play around with some of the other sliders for other components of the vehicle, to see what might be the best combination for your driving style.

PURSUIT TACTICS

Pursuits are back from Hot Pursuit, and there bigger and better then before. The cop AI is a lot smarter, and eventually learn your moves, and attempt them on you.
So here are a few things to try when in pursuits with the black and whites.

  • Try to get your infractions done first thing in a chase. Like drove over a stop sign, or through a tollbooth, or ram a police car.
  • Look at your mini map often, that way you can spot upcoming police roadblocks and kinda prepare yourself.
  • For me, spike strips are always on the left side of the roadblock, it may also be the same for you.
  • When coming up on a roadblock, use your speedbreaker and steer your car over to the rear end of a police car (spoiler end) this makes going through roadblocks easier. Just make sure your car is clear of the spike strips if there is any.
  • The police will usually start putting out spike strips at level four heat.
  • If you want to keep a police chase going but back up is a minute or two away, and there is only one or two cop cars behind you. Just slow down to around one hundred and twenty mph (Miles Per Hour), and wait for back up to arrive.

So those are some of my tips and tricks, that I hope become helpful to you when your playing Need For Speed Most Wanted.

Good Gaming To All!
